It’s Too Cold…How About Some Oyster Stew?
Posted on February 16th, 2010 No commentsOur irascible correspondent Shorty Petite once again gives us a “no holds barred” opinion of his winter condition; deciding to stay at home and try his hand at recreating rather than venture outside to partake of his favorite seafood restaurant, Dock’s Oyster House in Atlantic City…..
Frozen Dinners!
It’s just too damn cold to go out. If I didn’t have to attend to certain necessities, I’d never leave the house. So, I rarely venture into the frigid, harsh outdoors, preferring to keep myself occupied inside. I watch my soap operas, listen to my ‘20th Century Rock’ collection, alphabetize my sock drawer, email chain letters to people who irritate me and feed my face.
By far, eating is the most dangerous. I know that, just like the animals, humans tend to put on ‘winter weight‘ to get through the season. And, though it is a natural thing to do, I seem to have taken it to unnatural lengths. I tell myself that I wear sweat pants because they are warm and comfortable…but I know better. A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
I’ve cut down on my food shopping trips and decided to eat out of the freezer and pantry. It is a sad journey of self-discovery. Some of the items I find lurking in the cold and dark reflect a momentary adventuresome spirit, while most of what I excavate reflects moments of ‘What was I thinking?’
Tonight I’m going to try replicating a great seafood meal I had at the Oyster House in AC using canned anchovies, candy corn and Pringles.
Maybe I’ll send Chef Stefan the recipe. Take a look at the video under the Dining and Nightlife section. Here’s looking up at you, kids
