Worth The Trip

Our irascible imp Shorty, has finally emerged from the winter doldrums and made his way to lovely Long Beach Island for a quick stay at the hip and happening Daddy O Boutique Hotel in Brant Beach…..I hope he left the spandex at home!

I’m not a ‘boutique’ kind of guy. I’m not saying that I’m the ‘meat and potatoes’ type, either. I’m just saying that I got a problem with ‘trendy’.
I prefer to wear my pants around my waist, my baseball cap brim forward, my hair looking like it’s been combed and my nostrils and nipples unpierced. Just because it’s fashionable doesn’t mean it’s good taste; and
just because it’s in style doesn’t mean it looks good on you. Case in point, spandex. Keep in mind, my friends, it wasn’t so long ago some guy made a fortune out of selling ‘pet rocks’. PET ROCKS!
So, needless to say, going to a ‘boutique hotel’ was not high on my list of things to do. But I hadn’t been to Long Beach Island in quite a while and, was feeling a little reckless, so I went. It was one of those great New Jersey seashore days and the drive up the Garden State Parkway was actually pretty enjoyable. We crossed over the Manahawkin Bay Bridge into Surf City, turned right into Shipbottom, south toward Beach Haven and into Brant Beach. (Did you know there are Loveladies somewhere above Harvey Cedars place?)
Daddy O in Brant Beach wasn’t trendy, it was cool. Good restaurant, lively bar, entertainment and great rooms. All in all, it was worth the ride.
